As a result, EPS can fail, however, after restarting the cycle, return to function and fail again. Without power steering assist, the vehicle can be difficult to control, potentially resulting in an accident.

Vehicles affected include all X3s manufactured between April 27 and June 8, 2011.

The fix is as simple as the problem: BMW will replace the EPS system for free at dealerships beginning this month.
